Scientific Name: Echinacea purpurea

Named for the prickly scales in its large seed head, the herbresembles the spines of a hedgehog (echinos is Greek for hedgehog).Results of archaeological digs indicate that Native Americans mayhave used echinacea for more than 400 years as a general "cure-all”.
