WHY AFTER-SUN CARE IS SO IMPORTANT
We all know how important it is to protect our skin from the sun. But what about the role of after-sun care? It gets far less attention – but it’s essential to healthy skin.There’s no doubt spending time in the sun can be great for your wellbeing. But if that little bit of sun becomes too much, a whole slew of skin problems can result – from wrinkles and premature skin ageing, to hyperpigmentation.And while using a broad-spectrum sunscreen is vital, we shouldn’t rely on sunscreen alone to give our skin all the protection and care it needs from the sun, said Jurlique’s Ultimate Beauty Expert, Rebecca Nicholls.“Sunscreen works by filtering UV radiation with a barrier that absorbs and/or reflects the UV rays away from the skin,” she explained. “The higher the SPF and PA ratings, the smaller the amount of UV radiation getting through.“But no sunscreen can provide 100% protection from UV radiation. And what does get through accumulates, and may lead to sunburn if you stay out in the direct sun for too long.”What’s more, you don’t necessarily have to be sunburnt to suffer long-term damage. “Tanning is your skin cells in trauma. HOW TO GET ‘GLASS SKIN’ IN JUST 5 STEPS
Yes, you read it correctly. Just 5 steps! If you’re a skin care aficionado, you most definitely have heard of “glass skin” by now and know that it involves a longer routine than five steps. Read on to discover how to get glass skin naturally. WHAT IS GLASS SKIN? Before we get started, let’s get into what glass skin is. The term originated – like many other beauty trends – in the Korean beauty (K-Beauty) space and describes skin that is luminous, clear and unblemished. If you look at somebody with the glass skin look, their skin is even, smooth and free of any visible texture like pores, bumps or rough patches – hence the comparison to glass. Originally, glass skin is achieved through a multi-step K-beauty routine that can include up to 10 different products and steps. Understandably, this can be impractical for many women. Thankfully, you can achieve the same effect in less time and with half the amount of products. OUR 5-STEP GLASS SKINCARE RITUAL 1. CLEANSE If you asked us which one of these steps is non-negotiable, it would be the cleanser step. Glass skin starts with a thorough, double cleanse every night. Start with a cleansing oil like our Nourishing Cleansing Oil and muslin cloth to remove any makeup, sunscreen and surface debris, then follow it up with a gentle cream, gel or foam cleanser. 2. ESSENCE Is it really a K-Beauty skin trend if there isn’t any essence involved? A hydrating essence like our Activating Water Essence+ enhances your skin’s ability to retain moisture and helps it better absorb your other products. To apply, pour a couple of drops into your palms, place your hands together and gently twist to activate the essence. Gently pat lightly onto your skin until it completely absorbs. 3. OIL Now that you have on all of your water-based hydrating products, you’re going to want to seal it all in with a facial oil. Sealing in moisture supports your skin’s protective barrier. Depending on your skin type, it’s best to consider which oil will work on your skin best. Drier skin types might need a more hydrating oil, while oiler skin types benefit from a balancing oil. Belynda Henry is the acclaimed Australian artist who created The Jurlique Farm, the stunning painting that appears on our 2017 Rosewater Balancing Mist Intense Deluxe Edition. We chatted to Belynda to find out more about what inspires her work and why she chose to collaborate with us.How important is nature in your life?I live on 40 acres on the NSW Central Coast, at the end of a secluded valley surrounded by thousands of acres of national park. There’s lots of wildlife here, and it’s where my two daughters have grown up. I’ve loved teaching them about nature and we’re lucky that there’s a lot of nature around us. And my everyday fascination with the Australian landscape inspires what I paint.How do you incorporate nature in your art?Living at the end of a long valley, which I drive through daily, I am constantly and automatically gathering views, moments and images I see. Then, back in my bushland studio, I reassemble the memories much like a jigsaw into a simplified and emotional interpretation of the beauty that surrounds me. I look for shapes, forms and colour, and my interpretations depend on how I feel when I look at things.What made you want to work with Jurlique?Jurlique loves and respects nature, so I think that was our common thread. I can relate to this, as I too take something simple yet wonderful from nature and transform it into something people love. Jurlique’s link with nature is really important to me, how they don’t take it for granted; they incorporate the principles of sustainable farming and only grow what they need. It represents both a simplicity and a power.When did you first start using Jurlique products?I went to Sydney College of the Arts and had to travel through the city to get to there. That’s when I first saw the Jurlique store. I had a part-time job, and I would go and spend all my money in there; it was one of the first brands I really loved. I loved the scents and the natural products.How did you create The Jurlique Farm?My painting is a summary of everything I saw when I went to the farm. On my last day there, we sat on the side of a hill that looks across the valley, and that’s where I did my sketching. The wide open space, the native Australian colours of the gum trees, and of course the Roses were my inspiration.The colours at the farm were so beautiful and had such a beautiful fragrance. The painting I created was my interpretation of the farm, based on the colours and how it made me feel.And it was wonderful learning how Jurlique products are made – seeing the different elements of the farm, talking to the growers, finding out about the unique extraction process. It’s amazing how Jurlique has the vision to take nature, which is something so many people take for granted, and turn it into something so beautiful. Being there made it all make a lot more sense.Is there any Jurlique product you can’t live without?I love Rosewater Balancing Mist. It’s so beautiful. I keep it on my coffee table or sometimes it moves to the kitchen bench; it’s always somewhere where we can walk past and have a quick mist.
