6 HAND WASHES AND CREAMS TO CARE FOR YOUR HANDS

6 HAND WASHES AND CREAMS TO CARE FOR YOUR HANDS

Hand soaps have always been a necessity to clean hands and kill germs - and are more important than ever. With the spread of COVID-19 around the world, advice from health experts is to wash your hands to prevent the virus from spreading. Why? According to this article, written by Pall Thordarson, a professor of chemistry at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, the “virus is a self-assembled nanoparticle in which the weakest link the lipid (fatty) bilayer. Soap dissolves the fat membrane and the virus falls apart like a house of cards and dies – or rather, we should say it becomes inactive as viruses aren’t really alive.”The Department of Health recommends washing hands for 20 seconds, paying particular attention to the backs of hands and fingers, fingernails, fingertips and the webbing between fingers. Excessive hand washing and use of alcohol-based hand sanitisers may cause your hands to feel dry, so we suggest regularly using a nourishing hand cream throughout the day. Here are our best hand washes and creams to care for your hands.Softening Hand Wash Rose: this hand wash contains a special blend of natural botanicals and Rosa gallica extracts to cleanse and nurture your hands. JENNIFER TRAN'S CREATIVE PROCESS

JENNIFER TRAN'S CREATIVE PROCESS

Give Sydney-based artist Jennifer Tran some paper and a few tools and she can transform it into something spectacular: paper flowers so rich and detailed they look just like the real thing. Through her growing business, Papetal, she’s worked with brands around the world, authored her own book and been featured in renowned publications such as The Design Files and National Sculpture Magazine of China. In celebration of our latest Adriana Picker-designed limited-edition products – Rosewater Balancing Mist Intense Deluxe Edition and Jurlique Rose Luxe Edition Hand Cream – we spoke to Jennifer about her own creative process and how she incorporates the products into her own daily routine. She even whipped up some of her special creations, too.Tell us about your work and what you do?I make paper flowers for advertising, window displays and set designs. On occasion, I also run flower making workshops and participate in store activations. It’s a very exciting career, as it allows me to exercise my creativity and connect with many talents.Bottle of Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist Intense Deluxe Edition next to pink paper flowers How did you get into this position?By never standing still. Things change quickly in the creative industry. What is so cool today may be obsolete the next. For this reason, I never allow myself to be comfortable with my techniques or to settle with any particular methods. I keep track of what goes on in the world, how brands move and how other creatives are adapting, so that I can make changes to the way I operate. For instance, if I didn’t conquer my fear of making oversized flowers, I would possibly never have got the chance of creating window displays for Jurlique. Or if I never pushed myself into making tableware, I would never have caught the eyes of the team at Anthropologie and being able to create one of the most exciting projects in my career. Changes are hard and I fail more often than I succeed, but I don’t think I would ever get to where I am by being afraid of change.Describe your process when it comes to your work – how do you tackle a new project?I study both real flowers and botanical illustration. During the production of my book, Flowersmith, I dissected over 30 flowers just to understand their structure; how the layers are connected, how the petals are arranged and how things like buds and leaves are attached. Having an understanding of an internal structure of a flower gives me an idea of how to best replicate it. When I need to make a flower that isn’t in season, I rely quite a bit on botanical illustration. What challenges do you face in your work?Like many freelance artists, I work super crazy hours. Sometimes, I make flowers from the moment I wake up, and if I’m lucky, I get to finish at midnight. During these periods, it’s important that I take care of myself. This involves eating right, taking breaks, no skipping on Pilates and sparing a few moments for self-pampering. Pampering can be as simple as taking care of my skin, as this really relaxes me.Another challenge is learning when to say “no”. It’s tempting to secure as many projects as possible, as I’m running a business after all. In the first few years of Papetal, I didn’t know when to stop. I pushed myself too hard that my health was slowly deteriorating. When I finally felt sick, I realised that I had to make some changes. As hard as it was, I had to start saying “no” to projects that would potentially take over my life. By taking in less responsibilities, I can now focus on quality over quantity. On top of that, I now have more time for the people I love and the things I enjoy outside of flowers... like baking for instance.Tube of Jurlique Rose Luxe Edition Hand Cream next to pink paper petals What do you find most rewarding?Being able to exercise my creativity and connect with so many people. Each project is a new learning opportunity. Sometimes, I get to create flowers that don’t exist in nature. Other times, I get to invent a new technique that pushes the boundary of my craft, such as creating paper flowers that can be immersed in water etc. But above all, the best thing about my job is being able to connect with so many talents. I have met photographers who blew my mind, graphic designers who saw my work in many exciting different perspectives that I could never see and art directors who solved problems no one could. The opportunity to work with and to learn from these talents is what makes my job worthwhile. When you’re experiencing a creative block, how do you get out of it?I have creative blocks more often than not, so I’ve developed different ways of dealing with them. Here are just a few; - Discuss the challenge with my partner. He is a fantastic coach. He knows just the right questions to ask, to guide me back onto the right track. - Exercising. For me, it’s Pilates. I find that when I focus on Pilates, I become disconnected from my creative work. This creates a mental break and allows me to return to it with a fresh perspective. - Self-pampering. Just like exercising, self-pampering lets me unplug and recharge. I used to bath with Jurlique Rose Body Oil. But with the current water restrictions, I mask instead of bathing. I love Jurlique Purifying Mask as it is detoxifying yet gentle on my combination & sensitive skin. What advice would you give to others who are looking to explore their creativity?Think about what you can bring to the world instead of what you can get. When I first started, I was a part of a small community of flower artists. All I wanted to do at the time was to create something beautiful for our little community, tackle technical challenges and share the findings with others. It made me smile every time I contributed to someone else’s progress or made others want to join our little group. Having a pure intention to contribute encouraged me to explore my strengths, invent new methods and share my work without pressure or restrictions. I grew so much during this period of freedom and selflessness. And surprisingly, such rapid growth brought me so much attention and organically turned Papetal into a business.Talk us through how you use your limited edition Jurlique products throughout the dayI like to use the Rosewater Balancing Mist Intense Deluxe Edition on both my face and hands. For the face, I only use it twice, once in the AM and once in the PM and it’s just enough for my combination & sensitive skin. For my hands, I use the mist quite a lot during the day. As I work with paper and PVA glue, my hands get really dry especially after a long session of flower making. I often spray the mist three times on my hands, rub them together until the mist is fully absorbed. I then apply a dollop of the Jurlique Rose Luxe Edition Hand Cream again rub in it to cover every inch of my skin. I find this process very therapeutic as I get to inhale the uplifting scent of the Jurlique Rose.View more of Jennifer’s work on her Instagram and website.

HOW TO HAVE A RELAXING SPA DAY AT HOME

HOW TO HAVE A RELAXING SPA DAY AT HOME

We all love a spa day. A day to fully switch off, get truly looked after and allow you disconnect and relax. But let’s face it – dedicating all that time to a full spa day can be hard to do, so sometimes the next best thing is creating the perfect spa day at home. From DIY spa treatments to relaxing bath tips, here’s how to create your very own blissful spa sanctuary. SET THE SCENEYou know when you walk into a spa and you feel instantly relaxed? They’re calm, soothing and free of all distractions, so try and replicate that atmosphere at home. Remove anything that could take your attention, such as your phone and computer. Dim the lights and diffuse essential oils such as lavender, chamomile, sandalwood, ylang ylang or rose to help you relax - try our Tranquil Blend Essential Oil or Comforting Blend Essential Oil. Play soothing, soft background music at a low volume and recreate that delicious ‘spa water’ by adding fresh mint and slices of cucumber to a water pitcher. Cup of herbal tea on blanket UNWIND WITH A HOT SHOWER OR BATHCleanse your face and body as you normally would – use the Jurlique Calming Shower Gel Lavender for that spa feeling – and exfoliate your body by working your way upward using circular motions to stimulate circulation and slough off dead skin cells. If you’re having a bath, add Epsom salts to help relax your muscles and add a few drops of your favourite essential oil to harness the power of aromatherapy. Stay in the bath for at least 20 minutes, close your eyes and relax. Tea, candle and flower on wooden bath caddy MOISTURISE YOUR BODYRestore moisture by slowly massaging in a nourishing moisturiser or body oils, such as our Rose Body Oil or Calming Body Lotion Lavender. Take your time on this step – think ‘spa pace’. Wait a few minutes for the moisturiser to absorb before putting on a bathrobe. APPLY A FACE MASKThis is pampering at its finest. Apply a face mask that’s tailored to your skin concern (read our guide to face mask to find one that suits you) and sit back and relax for at least 10 minutes while you let it work its magic. If you have combination skin or more than one skin care concern, try multi-masking - you could apply one mask after the other (aka ‘layering’), or apply cream masks to different areas. Don’t forget those cucumber slices – the coolness helps to relieve puffiness and can give the eye area a real hydration boost. Once you’re done, rinse off your masks and apply your serum, eye care and moisturiser. Jade roller on woman’s face TREAT YOUR HANDS AND FEETWe tend to neglect our hands and feet but for a true at-home spa day, give them some TLC. Soak your feet in a bowl filled with warm water and use a pumice stone to buff away any dead skin. After soaking, remove your feet from the bowl, moisturise them and wrap a towel around them to lock in the moisture. The skin on our hands is delicate, so use specially-formulated products to treat them. Exfoliate using our Purely Age-Defying Hand Treatment, soak your hands in a bowl of warm water, and finish by applying a hydrating hand cream.A spa day can do wonders for our skin (and mind). Try setting one day (or evening) aside a month for a bit of at-home indulgence and make the most of aromatherapy and beautiful botanicals. Shop our range of natural products here.

Spend more time outdoors Ever feel an unexplainable joy and serenity when you’re amongst Nature? It’s because humans inherently crave Nature. Biologist E.O Wilson said that contact with Nature is critical to our well-being as regular exercise and a healthy diet. Despite being surround by so much beauty in Nature, we often forget to take it in. Experiencing Nature can be as simple as taking a walk through the park on your way to and from work, taking an outdoor yoga class or soaking up some vitamin D on your lunch break. 2. Use a botanical mist If you can’t physically go out into Nature, you can reconnect at your office desk, in a muggy train or before bed with a few spritzes of a botanical mist. HOW TO CREATE A MINDFUL WORK FROM HOME ROUTINE

HOW TO CREATE A MINDFUL WORK FROM HOME ROUTINE

Work from home, who wouldn’t want to? You get to sleep in longer, work in comfortable clothes and skip wearing makeup. The perks are endless, but it also takes extra discipline, boundary setting and practicing of self-care. Without doing so, it’s very easy to fall into a spiral of chaos and stress. To ensure you create a mindful work from home routine, here are a few of our own tips.   Maintain a ritual and set boundaries between work and home Even though you’re still doing the same work you would in your office, your work from home routine will inevitably differ from your office one. You’re not commuting, ordering your usual coffee from the local café or having in-person meetings. Without these elements to help you maintain that work and home balance, it can feel like your days start blending into one.Apply clear boundaries so you’re not blurring the lines of work and play by incorporating bits of your office routine. Without a commute, it’s tempting to roll out of bed at 8:45am and jump straight into you work emails at 9:00am. If you normally wakeup at 7am, continue to do so – use that time to have a slow morning. Make your bed, stretch, have a wholesome breakfast, go for a walk, or read a few chapters of that book you’re reading.Set reminders to help you break up your day. You don’t want to get into the habit of eating lunch at your desk or working late into the evening – this can leave you feeling burnt out. Here’s an example to get you started.7am - 8am: Wakeup, make breakfast and coffee, get changed8am - 9am: Work emails and set your to-do list9am - 12.30pm: Start working on your to-do list. Have a mini rest break at 10am for 15mins to have a cup of herbal tea, mediation break or do something you love12.30 - 1.30pm: Lunch break outside1.30pm - 3pm: Go down your to-do list'3pm - 3.30pm: Get some fresh air, catch up with your family in the living room or zoom call .3.30pm - 5.30pm: Finish of the rest of your to-do list and shut down your computer.Create a to-do listWinging your day or trying to do too many things at once is a sure-fire way to stress yourself out. It’s not productive and it’s not healthy. A pro tip is writing your task list in order of priorities. Create a column for things you need to get done before 12pm and things you need to get after lunch time. Checking them off as you go is a great way to keep yourself motivated. But, don’t be so hard on yourself if you’re unable to complete a task – just add the task to the top of your list for the next day. Set your intentions and practice gratitude Gratitude journaling and intention setting is a simple tool to remind you about all the positive workings in your life. Gratitude journaling is super easy too: just write down or type the things you’re grateful for every morning or night. Drank 2L of water? Log it into your journal. Walked your dog on your lunch break? Log it into your journal. Had the best coffee of your life? Log that in too. There’s so much we can be grateful for, whether big or small - acknowledging it can help you become calm, self-aware and happy.Setting daily intentions and affirmations can also help you have a more successful and positive start to your day. Some positive work affirmations can be, “I am proud of what I’ve done and what I’m doing” or “I am in charge of how I feel and today, I am choosing happiness”. You can say these out loud or write them down on a sticky note and put it somewhere you can see while you work. If you ever feel flustered, return to your mantra and take a deep breath to keep yourself grounded. An open diary/planner on the calendar page and highlighter Practice Self-Care Self-care comes in all shapes and sizes, but the little things count just as much as the big things. Sip on a calming herbal tea while you work, wear soft clothes, play your favourite work playlist. All of our self-care practices differ, so do what you love most. At Jurlique, we keep bottles of facial mists by our desks and have something we like to call ‘misting moments’. Our Sweet Violet & Grapefruit Hydrating Mist is perfect for a misting moment and will instantly uplift your mood, while leaving you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. If you feel like you’ve been typing too much, keep a hand cream handy - take a break and give yourself a mini-hand massage. Our Citrus Hand Cream is quickly absorbed so your keyboard won’t be left greasy and the distinct citrus scent will leave your senses enlivened. Have some downtime When you’re working from home, so much extra time is freed up. Use these as opportunities of downtime. Right after you get off a Zoom call, take the time to meditate. Close your eyes, be still and let your to-do list slip away for a moment while you inhale and exhale. On your lunch break, you could chill on your couch with a meal and catch up on your favourite Netflix show. Or switch your phone to flight mode and find a relaxing physical activity to do, such as yoga or go for walk. Yoga is known for calming the body and mind, and all you need is 15 minutes every day. Whatever you need to do to recharge, do it. Hygge your space Hygge (pronounced hue-guh) is a Danish word, that while has no direct translation to English, it can be compared cosiness and mindfulness. Meik Wiking, the author of The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living says in his book that “The true essence of hygge is the pursuit of everyday happiness and it’s basically like a hug, just without the physical touch”. A few simple ways to embrace hygge living in your workspace is to open your curtains and bring in some natural light. Wear fuzzy slippers. Decorate your workspace with a candle or two, your favourite books, favourite flowers, even your favourite mug can count as decoration. The goal is to feel cosy. Have a good sleep schedule You want to ease yourself into the new day by starting with a good night routine. Before you go to sleep a good habit is to take the time to detox from technology at least an hour before bed. So you don’t wake up feeling groggy, avoid staying up too late, drinking too much wine or caffeinated beverages before you hit the sack. Instead get into bed with a book and calm your senses by adding a couple of drops of our Lavender Pure Essential Oil into a diffuser – before you know it you’ll be asleep.

8 OVERNIGHT BEAUTY TIPS FROM A SKIN CARE SPECIALIST

8 OVERNIGHT BEAUTY TIPS FROM A SKIN CARE SPECIALIST

You don’t have to go to a spa or a salon to keep your skin, hands and feet looking their best. There are a few at-home treatments you can do in the evening that will give your skin that extra bit of TLC when it needs it most and the best thing is, you can leave them to do their work while you sleep. We asked Jurlique Education Specialist Danielle for her top overnight beauty tips – pair them with an at-home spa day for even more indulgence.1. Create your own sleeping mask. Massage our Rose Moisture Plus Moisturising Cream Mask into your skin at night in the place of your normal night cream 2-3 times a week for a ‘sleeping mask’ treatment. This will help deeply moisturise dry and dehydrated skin.2. Indulge in a nourishing hand treatment. Rose Moisture Plus Moisturising Cream Mask can also be used on your hands. Massage a layer all over your hands and put on cotton gloves before going to bed for the ultimate softening treatment for dry, chapped hands. This is amazing to get hands ready for the big day for brides or a special occasion where your hands will be on show - or just to restore moisture after lots of washing and sanitising!3. Look after your feet. Exfoliate dry skin on your feet with a pedi paddle or body exfoliant, then rinse away. Massage a generous amount of a body lotion such as our Softening Rose Body Cream into feet and heels and pop on socks before hopping into bed. Massage any excess on hands into knees and elbows. Do this nightly until feet and heels are smooth and soft and then continue twice a week to maintain.4. Apply a face oil. Massage skin with Skin Balancing Face Oil after applying your serum and before night cream prior to bed to restore a soft healthy glow to your skin. Avoid going too close to the eye area. Use slow, relaxing, upwards strokes to release tension. This is best done the night before your hair washing days.Jurlique Skin Balancing Face Oil next to green plant 5. Use an oil for nourishing lip treatment. Apply a layer of Skin Balancing Face Oil on dry lips prior to applying your evening moisturiser all over the face and neck. Lips will feel nourished and moisturised upon waking, and it also helps your lipstick glide on in the morning.6. Apply Jojoba Oil to your hair. If you have dry hair and a sensitive scalp, massage Jojoba Carrier Oil deeply into your scalp and through hair concentrating on the ends, leaving it on overnight. Wrap your hair or place a hand towel on your pillow to protect it. Wash out in the morning with Lavender Shampoo and Conditioner for amazing shine and softness. Repeat twice a week.7. Hydrate your skin. If your skin is feeling dehydrated, apply a very fine layer of Moisture Plus Rare Rose Gel Cream over your serum and under your usual moisturiser at night. Continue for 7 days for an intense hydration booster, then return to your normal skin care ritual.Jurlique Moisture Plus Rare Rose Gel Cream on white linen napkin t 8. Treat your breakouts. As soon as you notice a breakout beginning, massage a small amount of Purifying Mask over the affected area/lesion only and leave on overnight. In the morning, the breakout will be far less noticeable and should dissipate sooner.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FACE ESSENCES

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FACE ESSENCES

Essences have been at the core of Korean skincare routines forever. And now, the K-Beauty trend has made its way into shelves around the world. But what is an essence exactly, and how can it take your skin to the next level? We answer all your questions in our guide to skin care essences – and why they’re a staple in the Jurlique skin care ritual. What is an essence? An essence is a hybrid between a toner and a serum, hydrating and prepping the skin for the rest of your skin care ritual. They have a fluid, lightweight and almost watery texture, and have a low molecular weight which means they can penetrate the layers of the skin. You’ll know a good essence by the hydrating ingredients it contains – look for high concentrations of antioxidants and botanicals. The benefits of using an essenceSkin needs to be damp for skin care products to be absorbed. This is what an essence does – it hydrates and conditions the skin to prepare it for the serums, oils and moisturisers to follow. Not only that, but essences balance and nourish the skin after cleansing and toning. With regular use, you’ll soon be able to see the visible benefits, as essences revitalise the skin, and smooth and brighten the complexion. Are essences suitable for all skin types? In a word – yes. There are different types of skin essence, with some formulated for all skin types, and others that address specific skin concerns like dullness or uneven skin tone, but they’ll suit everyone. The lightweight texture of essences is ideal for oily skin, while their super-hydrating formulas make them especially beneficial for dry and dehydrated skin. Most people are susceptible to dry skin at some point, though, so essences should form a part of everyone’s skin care ritual. How to apply an essenceUse your essence morning and night, after your toning mist and before your serum. Pour a couple of drops into the palm of your hands (don’t use a cotton pad – it will waste the product and your hands are much more effective) and gently press into your face, neck and décolletage. Why we created the Activating Water EssenceOur Activating Water Essence is an essential part of our skin care ritual. At Jurlique, we swear by our Activating Water Essence – it’s at the very heart of the Jurlique skin care ritual and is our secret to clear, smooth skin. Here are five reasons why you should start using it on the regular. It deeply hydrates the skinActivating Water Essence is formulated to continuously hydrate the skin. It contains emollients and high-performing botanical extracts to attract and hold water for a smoother, softer and healthier-looking complexion. In other words, it improves the skin’s barrier and activates its ability to retain moisture. When skin is hydrated, it can better protect itself, as well as absorb other skin care products more effectively. When we gave it to 52 women aged 25 to 50 to try for 14 days, 88% said their skin felt continuously hydrated. It makes your skin care work harderWant to get the most out of your skin care? As a hydration booster, Activating Water Essence could be the answer. It primes your skin and helps the skin care products you apply afterwards (namely, your serum and moisturiser) to penetrate into the layers of your skin. Think of your skin like a sponge. Anything you put on top of a dry sponge will just sit there, but a damp one will absorb it. Your skin is just the same.It smooths and softens the complexionThe lightweight formula of Activating Water Essence is infused with nutrients to smooth, soften and condition the skin. It features Marshmallow Root extract (which is super-hydrating and soothing), as well as botanicals grown on the Jurlique Farm – Calendula, Neem, Lavender, Rosemary, Horsetail, Witch Hazel, Nettle and Peach Leaf extract – that work together to activate and soothe the skin. Skin is left balanced, feeling revitalised and comfortable. It renews and revitalises the skinWith our skin exposed to (and battling) elements throughout the day, we need a little help to reenergise it. That’s where Activating Water Essence comes in – the inclusion of Peach Leaf extract in the formula adds radiance back to the skin. It also works to boost skin for a smoother, brighter and healthier-looking complexion (hello, smooth and glowing skin). It’s suitable for all skin typesSkin care for all skin types can be hard to find but Activating Water Essence ticks all the right boxes. Everyone goes through dry or dehydrated skin stages (we’ve got air conditioning, sun exposure and the general ageing process to thank for that) and thanks to Activating Water Essence having a lightweight and gentle formula, it’s ideal for all skin types – including oily skin. Use your Activating Water Essence morning and night after cleansing and toning, and before your serum. To apply, pour a couple of drops into your palms and press gently onto the face, neck and décolletage.Discover hydrated skin for yourself by shopping our Activating Water Essence here.

HOW TO GIVE YOURSELF A DIY AT-HOME FACIAL

HOW TO GIVE YOURSELF A DIY AT-HOME FACIAL

Facials are usually seen as next-level self-care treats because it’s not every day you get to enjoy the decadence of going to a spa — relaxing in a steam room, having a professional esthetician work magic on your skin and even indulging in a (beauty sleep-inducing) full-body massage. It’s that one time where you purposefully block out some time for yourself to relax, unwind and rejuvenate. But why not extend the feeling in between your spa visits with a DIY at-home facial? Here’s our step-by-step guide to DIY at-home facials. WHAT IS A FACIAL? A facial is a skin-refining treatment typically given by a skin care specialist. Depending on the skin’s needs, facials often include steaming, cleansing, exfoliating, hydrating, correcting and pampering the skin. Adding a weekly DIY facial to your regular face skincare routine can help supercharge your routine and get you closer to achieving a clarified, glowing complexion. HOW TO DO A FACIAL AT HOME STEP-BY-STEP Indulge in the luxury of a spa-like experience from the comfort of your space with our step-by-step home facial for glowing skin. Grab your softest robe and a hair towel (if you have one), sit back and prepare for some pampering bliss. STEP 1: SET THE MOOD The vibe matters. How are you going to feel relaxed if your space isn’t making you feel calm? You can replicate those spa components by turning off the lights in your bathroom and lighting a few candles to invite some warm and cosy energy. Turn on some music that makes you feel tranquil, maybe some Sade or Enya? It’s important for your space to have the right scents too. Add a few drops of essential oil into a diffuser or bath — try our Relax Blend Essential Oil with Frankincense, Patchouli and Bergamot to promote a sense of balance. If you’re going to add an essential oil to your bath, be sure to combine it with a carrier oil like jojoba to protect your skin. And there you have it; you’ve created a spa sanctuary, and we haven’t even gotten to the facial step yet. STEP 2: STEAM YOUR SKIN Steaming your skin does wonders for softening your pores and loosening all that buildup in your skin. No sauna, no worries — immerse a face cloth into warm water and squeeze out the excess moisture before compressing the warm damp cloth over your face and neck. Add our Soaking Ritual Relaxing to water to help refresh your skin and uplift the senses. As you press the warm cloth to your face, take a mindful moment to relax and enjoy the aroma. STEP 3: CLEANSE Jurlique USA National Education Manager Paula Provenzano recommends double cleansing. The first cleanse thoroughly dissolves surface impurities such as dirt, oil and makeup, while the second cleanse “makes sure that you get every speck of dirt and makeup that may be on the surface of the skin,” says Paula. For the first cleanse, you’ll need an oil-based cleanser like our Nourishing Cleansing Oil. Massage the oil into dry skin with a circular motion, then emulsify with water and rinse. For the second cleanse, go in with your favourite cleansing gel, foam or lotion depending on your skin type. While you’re doing a double cleanse, it’s the perfect time to focus on those areas that maybe are a little neglected, Paula says. “The ears, the hairline, the neck (front and back) shoulders and décolleté.” STEP 4: MIST Mists are proven hydration boosters that also provide a blissful aromatherapy-like experience. To soothe your senses before and after exfoliation, we recommend our Lavender Hydrating Mist. Not only will it refresh and restore that natural glow to your skin, but it will also calm your skin and soothe your senses. Hot tip: Store in the refrigerator during warmer months for a refreshing treat. STEP 5: MASSAGE Massaging the skin is optional but worth it if you want to get the circulation going in your skin. Massaging the skin relaxes facial muscles, reduces puffiness and helps the products penetrate. Using a jade roller, a gua sha tool or your hands, massage your skin from the centre of your face to the perimeter, around to the hairline and down to the ears and neck. “By doing that, you’re working with the natural flow of lymph, so if you have a little puffiness around the eye area, it will help to get rid of that,” says Paula. STEP 6: MASK  Paula says that masking is the centrepiece of facials. It offers intensive treatment for the skin and helps to address any skin problems from dryness, oiliness to irritation. You don’t have to pick only one mask either. You can multi-mask and apply specific masks to the areas that need it. Have sensitive skin on your cheeks? Apply a soothing mask to that area that’ll nurture and protect the skin. Is your skin looking dull and tired? STEP 7: MOISTURISE To kick off the moisturising step, prime and condition your skin with our Activating Water Essence+. It sets the stage for perfect penetration for all of your final treatment products, says Paula. Apply with a pressing and smoothing motion to prep the skin for serum. Your serum step always comes before eye cream and moisturiser and is a step you’d find during a professional facial. “It’s the real skin-correcting step that’s going to get in there and change and improve your skin,” says Paula. Finally, lock it all in with a moisturiser that works best for your skin type. Warm up the product in your hands to allow for smoother spreading, and remember to press in the moisturiser instead of rubbing it in. TRANSFORM HOMEMADE FACIALS INTO A FULL SPA EXPERIENCE After treating your skin to a rejuvenating spa facial at home, take a moment to pamper the rest of your body. Massage a nourishing eye care product, like our Herbal Recovery Eye Oil Roll-On, with a cooling ball applicator to awaken and nourish your delicate under-eye area. Your lips also deserve some TLC — apply a nourishing lip care product like our Rose Love Balm for soft, supple lips. Got time for even more “me time”? Treat yourself to pampering body care (if you didn’t already start with that). Try dry body brushing to exfoliate and stimulate blood flow. Then, follow with a soothing, oil-infused bath to calm your mind and soothe sore muscles. Finish with a rich body lotion or oil for soft, hydrated skin, not forgetting your hands and feet. Light a candle, pour some herbal tea or wine and sip away — you deserve it! For an extra boost, consider incorporating skin care tools like a jade roller or a gua sha tool in your face treatments at home. These can help relax facial muscles, reduce puffiness and help the products penetrate. How often should you get a facial? Skin care specialists recommend getting a facial every 4 weeks, but 5 to 6 is still great. Since your DIY facial home treatment doesn’t include extractions or invasive procedures, you can comfortably do one every week. If you can’t remember the last time you had a spa facial, now is the perfect time to book a pampering facial at Jurlique Spa. What are the 5 basic steps for a home facial? For a quick and easy at-home facial, start by steaming your face to open up your pores and soften any buildup in your skin. Follow with a double cleanse to remove dirt, oil and impurities. Then, gently exfoliate to remove dead surface cells and prep the skin for the next steps. Apply your favourite mask — whether a sheet mask, clay mask, gel mask, cream mask or peel-off mask. Finish with a moisturiser or facial oil and a soothing massage to relax your facial muscles and help the products soak in. What are the benefits of a home facial? A home facial offers plenty of benefits to your skin, including Clear skin — DIY facial steps often involve deep cleansing, which effectively removes any built-up oil, dirt or makeup that a daily cleanser may have missed.  Intense Hydration — Facials are a great way to flood your skin with moisture using essences, serums, nourishing masks and moisturisers.  Relaxation — Facial massages aren’t only relaxing and rejuvenating for the face but also the mind. Think of it as a mini-break to switch off and reconnect with your body in a deeply relaxed state. What not to do on a home facial? To prevent potential problems when having a home facial, avoid: DIY extractions — Yes, DIY extractions can be highly satisfying, but doing it wrong could lead to scarring or infection, so we recommend leaving this step to a professional. Using strong skincare products — If you’ve recently discovered a new product with ingredients you’ve never tried before, this may not be the best time to try it. Between steaming, double cleansing and exfoliating, your skin is already going through a lot
